Lifting and Learning: Two Decades of Insanity - from Dallas TX

Hola from Dallas! Your favorite nerd is here, preparing to dive headfirst into the madness of Dr. Andy Galpin and Dan Garner's lecture today!

The mind reels at the thought that I've been in this insane industry for nearly two decades and still get jazzed about learning new things.

Even crazier is that many of the experts I once idolized are now my comrades in arms and I have on speed dial on my phone. Bonkers!

This weekend, I'm embedded with the entire Rapid Health Optimization crew (part-time gig doing stress and sleep analysis) — a whirlwind of chaos and enlightenment.

Nineteen years ago, I could never have envisioned this journey. I just loved physiology and began lifting at 18, a 6'3" eel-shaped rake at 156 pounds, getting crushed by the empty 45 lb bar on the bench press. Hahah!

It's proof that if you're truly passionate about something, you can make it happen.

But, my fitness friend, it won't happen overnight, and it may not even happen in 2-5 years. If you really want it, stay with it. This principle applies to your profession, training, performance, and body comp.

It takes relentless work to move forward.

Many out there, window-licking at PF, believe that skipping most days of the month will keep them stagnant.

Wrong-o.

No work = regression.

You go backwards.

Physiology is dynamic and chaotic.

Entropy is a bee-otch that must be battled with violent consistency of action.

The beauty of it?

This doesn't require heroic effort or chanting mantras to David Goggins while mainlining caffeine.

Nope.

It does mean that you need to do something each day, even if it's just chilling and taking a long walk in nature to recover, gearing up to hammer it the next day.

Keep going.

You got this.

It can be done.

And now, I'm off to soak up more wisdom from the super nerds! Hell yeah!

Much love and learning,

Dr. Mike

Today on this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I dive deep into the world of sleep enhancement and stress reduction with Dr. Dan Cohen from Soltec Health. We discuss the company's innovative magnetic device designed to improve sleep quality and reduce stress. Dr. Cohen explains the science behind how Earth's magnetic fields can influence our autonomic nervous system and how this passive device can enhance deep sleep, recovery, and overall health. The episode also covers heart rate...

Take a jaunt down the twisted, neon-lit back alleys of the internet and what do you hear? The same tired, knuckle-dragging battle cry: "Suck it up. Train harder. Your body lies to you." "Stop being a wimp and throw more weight on the bar. Sleep is for the weak—grind now, die later." Oh yeah, the internet, where every basement-dwelling, protein-starved, 18-year-old ricket-riddled keyboard warrior is a self-proclaimed "X-PURT" on training, slinging advice like they’ve just descended from the...
